Greetings from California. A significant event that I just attended was The World Ag Expo® on February 11-13, 2020 in Tulare, California. An estimated annual average of 100,000 individuals from 70 countries attend the expo each year. As the largest annual agricultural show of its kind, it hosts 1,400 exhibitors displaying cutting-edge agricultural technology and equipment on 2.6 million square feet of show grounds. During my my brief tour around the expo grounds showed that there was lots of large equipment, all the way from grape harvesters to electric semi-trucks, and a significant presence of new crop promotion, particularly hemp.
I have had conversations with other TSP’s certified in California (there are a total of over 50). They show some interest in becoming a member of TSPN, but would really like to have some event, annual meeting or training in California. So perhaps we can focus on scheduling something like that in the coming years.
Regarding the recent training in Murfreesboro, TN, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and the interactions with other TSP’s and NRCS folks. By participating in the CAP138 (Organic Transition) workshops, this speeds up my eventual certification. It was particularly helpful to also have Steve Hill in attendance (he is the California NRCS TSP coordinator). We have discussed how useful a West Coast Training session would be.
